Fairy Struck (The Twilight Court Book One) by Amy Sumida

The Twilight Court Series Has Nine Books

Fairy Struck (The Twilight Court Book One) by Amy Sumida

From the Award-Winning author of The Godhunter Series comes an exciting new Urban Fantasy series!

Would you like to hear a real fairy tale?

A story about the war between us and them. A war which led to a truce and a truce which led to the creation of a secret society. There are councils you know nothing about, councils of fairies and of humans who write laws which govern us both. Laws you also know nothing about, yet you are held accountable to them.

If you break these laws, the Wild Hunt of Fairy will come for you, but don't worry too much, it's hard to break laws concerning things you don't believe in. Fairies tend to break the truce more than humans and that's where I come in. I'm part of a military force which monitors the Fey.

When they cross the line, we extinguish their light... permanently. I'm Extinguisher Seren Sloane and I can tell you a real fairy's tale, if you're brave enough to listen.

Genre: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Dragons, Mythical Creatures, Romance, Paranormal, Psychics, Werewolves & Shifters

Cold Coffee Review:  This author states “all she's ever wanted to do, since she was a little girl, was to write novels.” Even though this is the first book that I have read from this author, her enjoyment of the writing process and creative mind shines through in this “Fairy Struck” story.

Chapter one begins with her character, Seren Sloane explaining a few theories surrounding the origin of these mystical creatures like himself, called the “Fey”. If like me, you are unfamiliar with the term “Frey” Seren’s explanation will helps. “No one knows the true origins of the fey, I don't think even the fey themselves remember, but theories abound. One has them evolving alongside us but where we advanced in groups, banding together to become stronger, the fey morphed out of those outcast predators who were too wild for a pack. Those who don't believe in evolution, think instead that the fey issue from divine creations, angels fallen from God's grace. Yet another tale insists they were gods themselves, or demi-gods, led by a mother goddess named Danu.”

I never thought about hunting fairies before, but if you need to then using an expert called an “Extinguisher” is the key. I also didn’t know that “all magic leaves traces of energy and when combined with the powerful aura of a fairy, the resulting glow reaches up and around its host like the Northern Lights.”

Here is a quote that might draw you into the story: “We made camp for the night in a little clearing. A massive purple and silver tent was erected for me to sleep in, despite my protests. A fairy princess doesn't sleep on a mat alongside her knights. It seemed like a waste of time and effort to me but they actually got it up pretty quickly and mine wasn't the only tent they pitched. There was a communal tent for the knights. I guess being closely attuned to nature didn't equate to wanting to sleep in her loving arms.
It was around dusk that a shivering coolness coasted over me and had me running from my tent. I had just changed into a new set of leather pants, which I'd chosen to wear along with short tunics for the journey. Thankfully, no one expected me to parade around in fancy dresses through the forest like some Tolkien elf. The belt I'd been fastening over my tunic, fell away as I rushed to the middle of our camp.
My skin was prickling and there were fluttering sensations at the edge of my consciousness, like something was trying to get my attention. My heart raced as I peered through the thick growth of trees and shrubs crowding around the perimeter of the clearing. Something was approaching, I could feel it coming at me from all directions.”

Well-developed characters, good story telling, adventure, conversation, and a touch of romance kept me interested. If you enjoy fantasy and mythical creatures, you will love “Fairy Struck” which is the first book in this “Twilight Court” series.

Now the Godhunter holds the powers of Love, Sex, War, and Victory inside her but she's not really sure if that makes her a goddess. She is fairly certain that she's still mortal, but her new immortal boyfriend, Thor, doesn't seem to be worried about it.

What he is worried about is Vervain's bond to a werewolf Prince, and the fact that said Prince is the first-born son of Fenrir, the Wolf God. Then there's the minor issue of a Harvest goddess whose daughter Vervain liberated, and the angry Aztec god who hasn't been seen since the last time the Godhunter ruined his plans to launch the next world war.

From Lion Shifters to Viking Gods, Oathbreaker has it all!

Or how to lead a Pride of werelions who act more like a bunch of frat boys than grown men. She needs to work out her relationship with Trevor, the werewolf Prince bonded to her, and figure out if his grandfather, Loki, is serious in his repentance or is just up to more of his tricks.

Demeter's still on the run after her attempt on Trevor's life and it'd be great if Vervain could figure out where she's hiding before the goddess tries to kill her too. The Godhunter would also like to know why a bunch of vampires keep following her around. What's all that about?

Then there's Odin, leader of a faction of gods opposing Vervain in the God War. He needs the Godhunter's help and he's willing to pay for it, but can Vervain trust her enemy, a god referred to as the Oathbreaker? Odin has helped her in the past and she owes him, but the way Vervain feels around him is a complication she just doesn't need... and one more thing for her to figure out.

Yeah, the Godhunter could really use some time to think things through, but it doesn't look like she's going to get it.

Marked By Death (The Godhunter Book Four) by Amy Sumida

The cold is spreading.

After the battle in Asgard, Vervain Lavine, the Godhunter, just wants to celebrate the victory with her friends and family. The fact that those friends happen to be gods, and her family is a bunch of werewolves and werelions, only makes the victory that much sweeter. But the wound she took from Anubis' blade has scarred over, and the cold beginning to spread from it is worrisome. Not to mention the link it's established between her and the Egyptian God of the Dead, who seems intent on making her pay for having the audacity to attack him.

Then there's Demeter, still out to get Vervain, and Ares who may be holding a grudge over the loss of his lover and his left hand. Besides the gods who want her dead, there's the goddess who wants Vervain's help stopping a drug lord who also happens to be a god.

So it's a little hard for the Godhunter to celebrate, in fact she can barely sleep, ever since the night that she was marked by Death.

The Godhunter Saga heads into a new realm!

Married life has proven to be complicated for Vervain Lavine. Maybe it's the pressure of being the last dragon-sidhe in existence, the hope of an entire race of faeries. Beyond The Godhunter Series (Two Books)

A Darker Element (Beyond The Godhunter Book One) by Amy Sumida

“Long ago, when magic still roamed freely, without restraint or purpose, it delighted in the elements. It flowed through them, saturated them, and then became aware of itself. Faerie was born but within her and the elements was a seed of loneliness. This seed grew and multiplied into the darker emotions. When Faerie decided to create the fey to relieve her loneliness, she separated those darker emotions from the elements so that the fey were born pure.”

That's the story most fey tell about their creation but our creation, that of the dark fey, goes further. You see, we were those dark emotions which were so carelessly cut away from the other elements. Faerie didn't even realize that the Darkness was an element until we threatened her very existence. Then she saw what we needed; physical form like that which had been given to every other element. So we were finally created. Twenty-one dark-sidhe, each with the power of a dark emotion.

My name is Liatris and my emotion is Shame. It's all I've ever known and even with the freedom of the flesh, I can't seem to live beyond it. I don't expect a lot from this life but I have desires just like everyone else. Happiness, safety, love. Simple things but I know they'll never be mine. How can Shame coexist with happiness? How can a thing of Darkness ever feel safe? And how can I ever have love when the only man I want is our king?

A Darker Element will take you into another side of the Godhunter's world. Experience it all fresh from the perspective of a faerie whose life has just begun. Go beyond the Godhunter with this first book in the spin off series and delve deeper into the realm of Faerie. Grab your copy today!

The author recommends that you read this book between books 14 and 15 in the Godhunter Series

Cold Coffee Spotlight Interview With Amy Sumida

Amy Sumida is the Internationally Acclaimed author of the Award-Winning Godhunter Series, the fantasy paranormal Twilight Court Series, the Beyond the Godhunter Series, the music-oriented paranormal Spellsinger Series, and several short stories. Her books have been translated into several languages, have made it to the top sellers list on Amazon numerous times, and the first book in her Spellsinger Series won a publishing contract with Kindle Press.

She was born and raised in Hawaii and brings her unique island perspective to all of her books. She doesn't believe in using pen names, saving the fiction for her stories. She's known for her kick-ass heroines who always have a witty comeback handy, and her strong, supporting male characters who manage to be sensitive and alpha all at once.

All she's ever wanted to do, since she was a little girl, was to write novels. To be able to do so for a living is a blessing which she wakes up thankful for every day. Beyond her books, she enjoys collecting toys, to keep herself young, and cats, to keep herself loved.

Interview:

What makes you proud to be a writer from (Salem, Oregon)? Well, I just moved to Oregon in April, so I don't know if I'm allowed to be proud of it yet. I'm from Hawaii originally, and I think that gave me a unique perspective on writing paranormal fiction. There are a lot of superstitions in Hawaii, including fairy-like creatures and powerful gods who interact with humans but all with a tropical twist. Our melting pot community made me very interested in other cultures and their myths. So, Hawaii definitely shaped my writing style and that's something I can be proud of.

What or who inspired you to become a writer? I've always been a story teller. I remember getting into trouble in first grade because I convinced the other children that there was a monster in the field beside our playground. You may call that lying, but I call it writing. I started submitting novels to Harlequin by age 12 and when I was in High School, I wrote a book that my English teacher ended up passing around to her friends. It was only half done, so I had teachers I didn't know come up to me in the hall to beg me to finish the story because they had to know what happened. That was the first time I thought that maybe I could succeed at this.

When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published? As mentioned in the last answer; in High School.

What has been your most rewarding experience with your writing and publishing process?
When I started receiving emails from women thanking me for writing books that made them feel empowered and helped them overcome tragedy. I've been contacted by rape victims, manic depressive people, and even a father who used my Godhunter Series as a way to bond with his Autistic son. To have someone connect with me through my words and not only be entertained by them but changed positively by them is the most humbling and rewarding experience.

Additional Questions or Information (Given by Author):

I love strong women, so all of my characters are ladies with backbone. They don't usually begin as physically strong, but they are definitely fighters. They are women I'd like to be, experiencing things I'd like to experience (for the most part), and that's makes me love writing so much. I can create a world I want to live in and be someone—anyone—I wish to be.

I'm a hybrid author; Amazon's Kindle Press published the first book in my Spellsinger Series: The Last Lullaby, but the rest of my books are independently published. I love the freedom of publishing independently, but Amazon really helped to get my name out there.
